Union Station shops, restaurants and market are open 7 days a week during the following hours:
Union Station DC, opened in 1907, is considered to be one of the finest examples of Beaux-Arts style of architecture and was designed to serve as a gateway for the capital city. At the time it was built, it was the largest train station in the world. However, the advent of air travel led to a decline in railroad passengers, and the building was sealed in 1981. After three years of renovation at a cost of $160 million, Union Station reopened in 1988 - restored to its former glory. This living museum was redeveloped as a bustling retail center and intermodal transportation facility. In addition to 130 unique shops and restaurants, Union Station is the hub for Amtrak's headquarters and executive offices.
